Question by bbfrog: Do I Need a "Rival Bread N' Cake Bake Pan" for baking banana bread in my Crock Pot?
I want to make banana bread in my Crock Pot and the recipe asks for the Rival Bread N' Cake Bake Pan. Well, Rival does not offer this anymore as far as I can see and I'd rather not purchase one if I could use another type of bread pan.

Does anyone know if my banana bread will still turn out if I just use a standard bake pan in my Crock Pot?

I don't know about using a standard bread baking pan, but you can use a coffee can placed on a rack or trivet in your crock pot. I've also seen banana bread recipes for slow cookers calling for a new terra cotta flower pot! Here's a recipe calling for a can:

Slow Cooker Banana Bread

1/3 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 3/4 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 cup mashed bananas
1/2 cup raisins or chopped dates
1/2 cup chopped pecans, optional

In mixing bowl, cream together shortening and sugar; add eggs and beat well. Add dry ingredients alternately with mashed banana; stir in raisins or chopped dates and chopped pecans, if using. Grease a 4-cup can and pour batter in it.

Cover top of can with 6 to 8 layers of paper towel; and place on rack in cooker. Cover crockpot and cook on HIGH for 2 to 3 hours (or until bread is done).

I have a Rival Crock pot that I've only used once and I'm trying to figure out how old it is and if it is actually safe. It is a rival crock pot stoneware slow cooker and it is 250 watts. It does get very hot and was wondering if it should get hot on the outside surface. It is made out of metal or aluminum or whatever the material is called. It is not the hard plastic surface.

My rule of thumb usually is: when in doubt, throw it out. That includes electrical appliances, food or anything. Last thing you need is a fire being caused by a crock-pot.
