Pot Roast Slow Cooker

Question by co-worker: My slow cooker pot roast is on the dry side. Without using gravy what is a good way to give it more flavor?
I cooked it on low overnight. It smells great and isn't too dry, just a bit on the surface. I hate gravy, though, so how can I give it more flavor and juice? I added some whole onions to the cooker. What else can I do?

The chicken is not de-boned. I don't know if it makes a difference in the crock pot, but thought I would mention it.

Crock Pot Chicken

Ingredients
1eachchicken
2-5eachcarrots, sliced thinly
2eachonions, sliced thinly
2-5eachcelery, stalks, chopped, with a few leaves
1 1/2teaspoonsalt
1/2teaspoonblack pepper
16ozchicken broth, -or- 1 chicken boullion cube, disolved in 2 cups water
1teaspoonbasil, crushed
2 1/2tablespoonitalian seasonings mixture (optional)

Directions:

In a slow cooker, put in half of the chicken broth. Place half of the carrots, celery and onions in the bottom. Place the chicken (back side down) in the slow cooker. Add remaining broth, vegetables, salt and pepper, basil and italian seasonings (if used). Place lid on cooker and cook on LOW heat for 7-10 hours or HIGH heat for 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours.

Serves four.

NOTES: This is an excellent recipe for people on the go! Just start it in the morning and by 5 or 6 pm you have dinner! You can even get a package of mixed frozen vegetables if you don't have time to chop fresh ones. Buying a whole chicken is cheaper than to buy one pre-cut. The chicken almost falls off the bones it is so tender and it makes taking out the bones easy! Serve it in bowls over rice; like chicken soup. It makes a large amount and lasts at least 2-3 meals.

I feel like I'm always cooking the same thing for my family. I would really like some new recipes. I like to cook in the crock pot because it is so convenient, but any new ideas would be great. Thanks in advance and I'm sure my family would thank you too. lol
Thank you all for the great recipes! There are so many great answers it's going to be hard choosing the best one. Thanks again, I'm definately going to try a lot of these.

This could work for you family, but it depends on where you live. Check at your local grocery store to see if they sell a sauce called "Chile el Pato" It's a mexican hot sauce. And it's not made from duck, I don't know why they call it that. Anyways, cook some ground beef with a little seasoning salt instead of regular salt. Put it in the crock pot and add some chile el pato. it depends on how much ground beef you use and if you children like spicy food. The rest is up to you, you can make nachos out of it, or tacos. Tacos would be less messy for children, but it tastes wonderful, even by itself. Good luck.

Question by Willow (◣_◢): What is a good recipe for crock pot chicken?
I want to use chicken breasts, what's a good recipe to use in a crock pot? What vegetables work good to cook in there for chicken?

I favor creamy dishes rather than tomato-y ones. Also don't suggest beer or wine, thanks!

Don't leave out details like how long to cook it, I would be cooking on low.

My family likes this one:

Creamy Sour Cream and Onion Chicken

4 chicken breast halves
1 12 oz can of cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup sour cream
1 1/2 cups water
1 packet of onion soup mix

Place thawed chicken into crock pot or slow cooker. In a medium bowl, mix all the other ingredients together. Pour mixture of chicken and cover. Cook at low setting 6-8 hours or higher setting for 4-6 hours.

Serve over noodles, rice or potatoes. Also doubles easily for larger groups.

Question by Mommy2BeOf3: Anyone have any really good crock pot recipes for little smokies? Ever heard of one with spaghetti sauce?
I have to make a whole lot of little smokies in a crock pot tonight to take to work and want to try something different. Someone at work had mentioned a recipe where spaghetti sauce and grape jelly are used, yet i can't seem to find any recipes like that on the web anywhere. Any type of recipe will help me out though! Thanks!

Answer by soliloquy621
I'm not sure of the proportions, but we always used chili sauce and grape jelly.

My friend used to make it just by putting barbecue sauce on it, but I dont think it quite has the "little smokies" flavor like the chili sauce and grape jelly.
