Question – How safe is it to leave your crock pot cooking all day while you’re at work?
Question by mark: How safe is it to leave your crock pot cooking all day while you're at work?
I know that's sort of the idea behind them but I can't get past leaving something cooking while I am away for 6 hours. So, I mainly use mine on weekends. Do you leave your crock pot on with nobody home?

My mom did this a couple of times when we were kids. You might also try putting it to cook right before you go to bed. If you sleep longer then the time you need to cook just put it on a lower heat.
Good luck

Yes.
I used to do it all the time when I worked 12 hour days. Never had a problem. As you said that’s the whole reason for them.
Pretty safe, but I’m just as paranoid as you are. =) I’ll leave it in the center of my kitchen counter away from anything potentially flammable. Even then I still worry that my cat will knock it over or something LOL.
Yep! I do it all the time. I love throwing it together on my way out the door in the morning, and having a fragrant, delicious dinner ready for the family when we all get home from school / work.
Well, my mother used to do that to cook chuck roast and chicken and we never had a problem.
Just Dont Leave It Near Anything Flammable Or Near Water
And Make Sure Your Outlet Doesnt Have Any Problems Either
Yes and never had a problem. In fact I have 3 at home and one a the cottage. Big lover of slow cookn!
In my opinion it’s as safe as leaving your refrigerator plugged in, or any other electrical appliance. Any of them could catch fire if there is a problem with the internal wiring.
I leave mine on with nobody home all the time, and have done so for 20 years.
People do it everyday but if i am leaving i always make sure there is plenty of liquid and its on med not high.
its just wonderful to come home and warm meal done and one pot clean up thats the best invention ever!
It is safe my mom does it all the time. Just put it on low. You should be fine.
I’ve worried myself sick over the thought of it, but came home to find it just fine every time.
I do it all the time and I have never had a problem with it. It makes busy days easier. Love the crock pot!!!
Oh yeah I do it all the time! I’m usually gone for more like 10 hours too, so don’t worry too much about it.
If you’re worried about it bubbling over while you’re away, just don’t fill it more than 3/4 full.
If you’re worried about it starting a fire or something, you can plug it into a surge protector, then it’ll automatically turn off if there’s a problem.
20 years of slow cooking, my mother 40 years. However, my sister is a big ol’ freak & won’t do it. BUT she will throw a load of clothes in the dryer on her way out the door. Ain’t that a kick in the head? gas…flammables…
