Question by sprite: Can I cut my crock pot recipes in half?
It's just me and my husband, and though we like making things in the crock pot, some recipes just make SO MUCH and we get tired of the leftovers and they go to waste. Can I cut my crock pot recipes in half and still use the same size crock pot? Do I have to cut down the cooking time at all?

Yes to both. If you leave them in too long, the food will dry out.

Most Crock pot recipes assume a certain evaporation rate based on the size of the crock pot. So depending on the recipe you might have some problems with it. I would suggest getting a smaller crock pot or consider getting one of the vacuum sealers and making a larger recipe then freezing half in a vacuum bag then bring it out in a few weeks.

We are only 2 and do both. We often make a gallon of chili, soup or stew and freeze several meals.

Just be sure the pot is still filled halfway with ingredients.. the pot can be damaged if not, & the food doesn’t cook properly..

Yes, of course if your scissors are sharp enough. Nyuk!Nyuk! Seriously, for most crockpots if you halve the recipes the cooking time is usually cut by a quarter for example: 1 hour would be 45 minutes, 2 hours = 1 and a half hours etc. This could vary depending on altitude but, the recipes themselves will tell you these differences.
